The Basic Principles of Fly Imitation

The Four Elements of Imitation

Most of the time it is important to imitate a fishes food source as exact as possible, although there are always the exceptions. But day in and day out, the exact imitation to what fish are feeding on in the moment will prove successful. In that moment deploy the basics; size, color, silhouette, and behavior to your pattern or fly selection.

Three of the Four Elements of Immitation are accomplished at the tying bench by you or the commercial tier. The Fourth Element, behavior, is accomplished by you with your presentation. It comes down to your delivery and how you manipulate the drift or retrieve.
